Job Title: DevOps System Administrator
Location: Lexington, MA
Duration: 36 Months and 40 hours per week

The Information Integration & Decision Support Group, conducts research and development on space surveillance problems including tracking and identification of satellites, radar image exploitation, close approach monitoring and collision warning, applications of multi-sensor data fusion, and decision support. The Group also develops net-centric, service-oriented architecture that networks all of these capabilities together in an integrated information system.
Position Scope/Job Functions
The Group is looking to hire a mid-level DevOps System Administrator to help ensure availability and reliability of existing systems as well as the agile deployment of changes and updates. These systems are used by operators as part of their daily activities. This position would be part of a team comprised of IT systems engineers, network engineers and software developers responsible to ensure that the systems are functioning nominally. This team is the first responder to any questions or concerns of the users.
The DevOps System Administrator helps users with workarounds or solutions to their problems. This will include: log bugs and escalate complex user problems to staff; make sure that core infrastructure components, databases, messaging bus, servers, storage, web servers, etc. are functioning; ensure that the systems are updated and patched; make sure that logs are being captured and watch for potential security issues. The candidate will also perform basic checks to ensure the system is performing nominally, and data feeds and networks are performing to specifications. The candidate will also be responsible for working with the IT administrators, networking engineers and software developers to make sure that any updates to these systems are deployed rapidly and with minimal disruption of system availability.
BS in computer software, computer management, IT systems, physical sciences or mathematics or at least 5 years of relevant experience Must have 2+ years of experience in a DevOps role Excellent Linux skills - able to monitor logs, update software, install, configure and maintain servers (tomcat, http, ntpd, etc.) Experience with a modern programming language such as C++, Java, Python, Ruby, etc.
Experience with scripting languages. Fluent in at least one of the following languages: Power Shell, Perl, Bash (including sed & awk) Experience with modern software practices, build systems, source code repositories, bug tracking systems Experience with modern monitoring and configuration management systems,viz., nagios, ganglia, puppet, etc.
Current secret or higher clearance
Must be able to be on call on weekends and evenings for emergency support.
Capable of building and maintaining detailed documentation describing administration and management of complex computer systems.
Some familiarity with basic database administration (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.) Some familiarity with ActiveMQ, Kafka, Spark, Hadoop, HBase & Accumulo
BS OR Associate’s degree and at least 1 Certification.
