Job Title: Digital Design Engineer

Location: Lexington, MA

Duration: 36 Months and 40 hours per week

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our client’s Advanced Lasercom Systems and Operations Group develops, builds, tests, and operates laser communications systems for a variety of applications and environments. Lasercom offers dramatically increased data rates and enhanced physical security relative to standard radio frequency-based communications systems. The Group has expertise in communications; optics; electro-optics; optical turbulence mitigation; precise pointing control systems; embedded systems; command, control, and telemetry; high-speed digital design, test set design and fabrication; data analysis; modeling; and simulation. Group is in need of an Engineer for the design of high-speed, complex digital architectures necessary to support a lasercom system.

We are looking for designers who have had recent experience designing high speed digital designs (10 GHz). This position is focused on the development of the system that will go into space – space background would be a big plus, but not required.

Candidate resumes should provide enough detail to ascertain that the individual was involved with high speed digital design. If the descriptions are too high level, it is hard to determine if they have been a key contributor to the design, or just a small part of a larger team.

The Key experience for this role is experience performing detailed electrical analysis and design for high speed digital systems, and power distribution.

-Between analysts, designers, and developers, this is a large project team. This person will work with many of the team members.

-Candidate will help with hardware digital design, high speed circuit board design, high speed digital design, and schematic capture. The person does not need to be a layout person or someone doing signal integrity analysis, but the person should understand these two components and be able to work with their counterparts specializing in those areas.

-The high speed design is an absolute requirement. They need someone that can put a Xilinx FPGA on a board and use high speed SerDes up to 12.5ghz to complete it.

-Looking for someone who has done a whole board vs only some part of the board. It would be helpful to see this on the resume as well.

-Person should be able to do schematic capture and then relay details on PCB layout to the layout engineer. MentorGraphics is the schematic capture tool that they are using.

-Needs the experience of bringing the boards to life; soup to nuts.

-Looking for experience of around 10 years experience with a Bachelors and 5 years experience with a Masters

 

Required:

• Designing digital systems with high speed SerDes technologies operating up to 12.5 GHz

• Experience performing detailed electrical analysis and design for high speed digital systems, and power distribution

• Experience with PCB layout/oversight

• Experience supporting fabrication and assembly

• Experience with debugging prototypes and performing functional verification

• Familiarity with signal and power integrity design and analysis with SI simulation oversight

• Person will be a core member of aggressive design team. Needs good communication skills: willingness to listen to the needs of engineers and the ability to articulate solutions to engineers in other disciplines who possess little understanding of electrical hardware design.

 

Preferred:

• Experience in high-rel space based rad tolerant designs

• Experience with wireless communications systems

• Experience implementing high speed frame-based networking protocols such as OTN packet-based protocols such as 10G Ethernet
