Job Description:
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Scientist to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing next-generation laser and energy-based systems for dermatological and related applications. This includes driving projects from early concept development and feasibility studies through the design, construction, and testing of working prototypes. This is a hands-on role that combines deep technical expertise with creativity and problem-solving, offering the opportunity to make a direct impact on future device innovations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Analyze new laser concepts through theoretical modeling and computational simulations.
- Design, develop, and evaluate proof-of-concept laser and energy-based systems.
- Characterize and optimize critical laser components and topical delivery technologies.
- Improve existing processes and technologies through innovative problem-solving.
- Prepare detailed documentation for internal R&D purposes and for transition to product engineering.
- Contribute to intellectual property generation and documentation.
- Lead independent investigations into device development initiatives.
- Collaborate with external vendors, academic institutions, and industry partners.
- Participate in project planning, data reviews, and design reviews.
- Support prototypes in the field as needed, including travel.
- Work under regular oversight from senior research staff and management while contributing independent expertise.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or Laser Technology; advanced degree strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in laser and direct-energy technologies, including tissue optics and laser-tissue interactions.
- Broad technical expertise across multiple laser technologies, with proven experience in laser resonator design, short pulse generation, nonlinear optics, and laser amplifiers.
- Proficiency in experimental optics and laser technology, including instrumentation and electronic systems.
- Experience conducting studies on tissue effects of lasers and energy-based devices.
- Prior experience in medical device development is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
